13 – 16 August 2020
Welcome to the 2020 ‘Chamber Music on Valentia’ Festival. This has been a challenging year for live performances in general and the future is not yet clear. With the safety of our audience and performers as our priority, as well as our commitment to bringing music of international standing, outreach and engagement events to Valentia Island each August, we will be presenting this year’s Festival on-line with performances from outstanding Irish and international performers from both sides of the Atlantic. We continue our work with Irish composers as we feature Deirdre McKay and we celebrate significant anniversary years for Beethoven, Moeran (our patron composer) and Turlough Carolan. We will engage with young Irish composers and performers in on-line masterclasses and build on our mission of accessibility. We are proud to present a specially commissioned digital installation focused on the sights and sounds of ‘An Dairbhre’.
We hope you enjoy the rich offering we have put together. As ever we acknowledge our sponsors, supporters, volunteers and all those working behind the scenes. We are particularly grateful to Royal Holloway, University of London, who allowed us to film in their stunning Picture Gallery when we were permitted to bring musicians together again to perform for you. We are proud of the vibrancy of this Festival and programming that reflects the history and location of this wonderful Island and look forward to welcoming you to Ireland’s most westerly Music Festival.
