Stephen Power is an award-winning professional photographer, writer, and photography teacher, originally from the UK and happily living in Ireland for over 20 years. He has been resident on Valentia Island in County Kerry since 2016, where he runs Valentia Photography Workshops and undertakes photography commissions. 

Stephen’s photography career began in the early 1980s when he worked as a press and music photographer. Having interviewed the new owner of the Royal Court Theatre in Liverpool, for a magazine, he was invited to become an official photographer at the venue. There, he photographed and met many of the most popular rock and heavy-metal artistes of the time – many of whom are household names. Since then, Stephen has worked as an official photographer for the Cork Jazz Festival and the Chamber Music on Valentia Festival, among many other music-related commissions. His book, ‘Traditional Notes: A Celebration of Irish Music and Musicians’ was published by the Liffey Press (Dublin) to critical acclaim. 

Stephen is also known for his travel and environmental portraiture photography. His images have appeared in newspapers, magazines, and books all over the world. He has worked on assignment for many large UK and Irish organisations including: The Sunday Times Travel Magazine, The Irish Times Travel Supplement, Bord Bia, Bord Failté, Prenton Publications, Johnson Press, Pfizer and Tourism Ireland.
