Call for digital installations

Chamber Music on Valentia will be presented between 13-16 August this year, for the first time, as a virtual festival.  As part of our series of virtual events, we are delighted to announce a call for applications from Kerry-based creators (mixed media/video/sound art/composition/performance) to create a digital work to be launched and hosted on the Chamber Music on Valentia website during the 2020 Festival.

We are excited to announce that award-winning photographer and Kerry resident, Stephen Power, has been selected to respond to the theme, ‘AN DAIRBHRE’, its sights and sounds.

Theme for the call

The theme for this call is  ‘An Dairbhre’, its sights and sounds.  

Particularly as we are in this time of relative ‘quietness’, this is an opportune period for creative artists to engage with the sights and sounds of Valentia Island and create a ‘Digital Installation’.  We, therefore, encourage you to reflect on this theme and submit a suitable proposal that will respond to

Owing to the uncertainty brought by COVID-19, Chamber Music on Valentia and the successful participant will be required to take a flexible, innovative approach to process and delivery. Communication and the presentation of the final response will be done virtually, through our festival website. The successful applicant is welcome to visit Valentia Island, to actively respond to the theme and the sounds and sights of the area, however, responsibly within current government travel advice.

How to apply

Applications are now closed. The successful applicant will be notified on Monday, 20 July 2020.

Other important information

  • The selection committee will select one successful applicant. The successful applicant will receive an €800.00 commission fee for their work.
  • Please note that this opportunity is open to Co. Kerry-based music creators and artists only.
  • All applicants will be notified of the outcome by no later than 18.00pm on 20 July 2020.
  • More information about the digital installation will be sent to the successful applicant on 20 July 2020.
