Our 2023 Musical Map

A cornerstone of our programme is an afternoon of short, pop-up, FREE entry events around the island, this year including a focus on the harp, this year’s commissioned site-specific installation and two films of remarkable string music by Persian composer Farokhzad Layegh filmed at ancient Soltaniyeh Dome in Iran and ‘Behind the Strings’ a remarkable documentary about the legendary Shanghai String Quartet.

Our festival launch of Fuaimeanna Nua, our 2023 installation created specially for our audiences by local artist, musician, and photographer, Stephen Power.

3.00pm – 3.30pm | Church of St. John the Baptist, Knightstown

3.45pm – 4.15pm | Atlantic Villa, Knightstown

After a call for performers, we are collaborating with Music Generation Kerry to bring you this short new music showcase, featuring works by living Irish composers specially written for CoMA (Contemporary Music for All).

4.15pm – 5.30pm | Royal Hotel Function Room, Knightstown

Five years in the making, following the Shanghai Quartet around the world, join us for this special screening of the documentary film, Behind the Strings. The film tells the story of how a classical string quartet manages to remain on top of their class after 35 years, while still having personal lives back in the U.S. To whet your appetite, please view the trailer here (link embedded):
