New Music Masterclass with Deirdre McKay

We are now welcoming you to apply for a composition masterclass session with our Featured Composer, Deirdre McKay and Festival Artists on writing for the violin and cello.

This special opportunity is aimed at young and emerging composers to explore sounds, techniques, notations and does not require any pre-composed material, although sketches can be worked through.

Irish composer Deirdre McKay’s work has featured at London’s Southbank, Muziekgebouw, Amsterdam, Gothenburg International Chamber Music Festival, Orléans Concours International, The Wigmore Hall, London, The National Sawdust, Brooklyn, The Phillips Collection, Washington, National Concert Hall, Dublin, Symphony Space & Carnegie Hall, New York. Awards include a Director’s Choice Award from Boston Metro Opera’s International Composers’ Competition, Arts Council of Northern Ireland’s Major Individual Artist Award and a Paul Hamlyn Composer Award, London. For more information about Deirdre, please click here.

During COVID-19

In response to the current global situation, this project will take place online. Chamber Music on Valentia and invited guests will lead the project by video conferencing, and recordings, sketches and sound ideas will be shared digitally. 

Owing to the uncertainty brought by COVID-19, we and the participating performers and music creators will be required to take a flexible, innovative approach to process and delivery. The full schedule and deadline overview will be shared with participants as soon as our call for participants closes.
