Katie Ní Mhaoláin is a violist who has just completed her Bachelor of Music Performance at the RIAM with a First Class Honours. She will be beginning her Master of Music Performance at the RIAM in September with Andreea Banciu and David Kenny.

Katie has played in masterclasses for the likes of Garth Knox, Tatjana Masurenko, Jennifer Stumm, Maxim Rysanov, Lars Anders Tomter, William Coleman, Ruth Gibson and Neasa Ní Bhriain.

She first performed professionally at 19 in the National Symphony Orchestra, and since then has also worked in the RTÉ CO, NI Opera Orchestra and the Hibernian Orchestra. She has won prizes at the ESB Feis Ceoil and ChamberFest Dublin.

A keen chamber musician, she has played at the West Cork Chamber Music Festival on two occasions with a string quartet. The highlight of Katie’s chamber music performances to date was a performance of Enescu Octet in the NCH with Mihaela Martin and Frans Helmerson. 

She plays on a viola by Youenn Bothorel made in 2024.
