David Kenny

A native of Cork, David Kenny studied with Constantin Zanidache and Simon Aspell at the Cork School of Music. He is Associate Principal Viola of the RTÉ Concert Orchestra and teaches viola and chamber music at the Royal Irish Academy of Music.

David has performed with leading orchestras at home and abroad, including the Irish Chamber Orchestra, Sinfonia of London, Wexford Festival Opera Orchestra, John Wilson Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, and the Malta Philharmonic. He has appeared as guest Principal Viola with the Ulster Orchestra and Camerata Ireland, and has performed at internationally renowned venues and festivals such as the BBC Proms, Edinburgh Festival, Carnegie Hall, Beijing National Centre for the Performing Arts, Southbank Centre, Kennedy Center, and Concertgebouw Amsterdam. Earlier in his career, he toured extensively and played Principal Viola with the European Union Youth Orchestra.

An active chamber musician, David has appeared at the West Cork Chamber Music Festival, Clandeboye Festival, Music in Drumcliffe, Interlaken Classics, Bolzano Festival, and the National Concert Hall Chamber Music Gathering. He has collaborated with ensembles including the Ficino Ensemble, Musici Ireland, Fews Ensemble, and the Vanbrugh String Quartet. 

David performs on a viola by Frédéric Chaudière, with bows by Noel Burke and Joséphine Thomachot. He is supported by Music Networks’s Music Capital Scheme, funded by the Department of Culture, Communications and Sport. Music Network is funded by the Arts Council.
