Ben Burley

Ben Burley is a double bass player from Glasgow, Scotland. His tutelage includes an ABRSM scholarship to Royal Conservatoire of Scotland graduating in 2018, followed by an Erasmus at Hamu Academy in Prague and the Hallé String Leadership Scheme. His professors were Nikita Naumov, Ronan Dunne, and Jiří Hudec.

Ben began freelancing during his undergraduate studies and has worked with most of the leading symphony, opera, and chamber orchestras in the UK, including as principal with BBC Symphony Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Ulster Orchestra, Welsh National Opera, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland and Opera North.

Ben is section leader double bass of the Ulster Orchestra. He joined in 2025 which he does from his previous position as section leader double bass in Welsh National Opera.

Ben is proud to be a founding member of the Broen Ensemble, a vibrant young string group working around the UK.
